When the worlds of technical and fundamental analysts collide, the byproduct is the Defiance KSM TipRanks Analyst ETF (RANK). Launched at the end of June, the fund offers a dual-filter strategy that balances fundamental Wall Street sentiment with technical market trends. RANK brings these two critical investment signals together into a single rules-based methodology designed to encapsulate the best market ideas into a high-conviction portfolio.

“For years, many people have struggled to find common ground between fundamental and technical analysis,” wrote Todd Rosenbluth, TMX VettaFi’s head of research. “However, with the new RANK ETF, there can be consensus.”

Key Takeaways:

  • Launched at the end of June, RANK addresses the long-standing divide between fundamental and technical analysis. It blends Wall Street analyst consensus with technical trend indicators into a single ETF.
  • The fund tracks the TipRanks US Momentum Analysts Index, which first selects the top 100 U.S. large-cap stocks based on analyst BUY recommendations. It then applies moving-average price filters to isolate 50 high-conviction momentum holdings with strict single-stock and sector concentration caps.
  • In its first full month of operation through July, RANK demonstrated the viability of its dual-filter screening model across volatile market conditions. Top individual gains from Corpay (+14.65%), Amazon (+13.95%), and Baker Hughes (+9%) drove this performance.

The Dual-Filter Selection Process

RANK seeks to track the performance of the TipRanks US Momentum Analysts Index (the “Index”), which is calculated and administered by VettaFi LLC using proprietary sentiment data from TipRanks Ltd. The strategy applies a clear, repeatable screening model across the vast domestic equity universe. The selection process begins with the 500 largest U.S.-listed companies and filters for the 100 stocks with the highest volume of Wall Street BUY recommendations based on TipRanks analyst data.

After narrowing down the field to the top 100 consensus picks, the Index then applies a technical analysis overlay. It measures price trends against long-term moving averages to select the 50 equities demonstrating the strongest upward price momentum. The index then size-weights selected constituents with strict individual and sector concentration caps to maintain balance and offer diversification. Finally, the fund refreshes the portfolio quarterly to dynamically rebalance as analyst sentiment and technical price trends shift over time.

July’s Performance Drivers

July marked the first full month of putting RANK’s strategy to the test and it produced notable winners despite a month marked by heavy volatility. RANK’s dual-screening process identified several standout individual gainers across diversified market sectors. At the top of the heap, financial services provider Corpay Inc. (CPAY) led the portfolio’s best individual equity returns with a 14.65% gain during the month.

Not too far behind was e-commerce giant Amazon (AMZN). The stock advanced 13.95% and generated the portfolio’s largest single contribution at 0.83% due to its prominent 5.93% average portfolio weight. As of August 4, 2026, it stands as the fund’s largest holding with a 7% allocation. Meanwhile, oilfield equipment manufacturer Baker Hughes Company (BKR) rounded out the top three performance leaders with a 9% gain.
