(RTTNews) - Hemab Therapeutics Holdings, Inc. (COAG), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing therapies for blood coagulation disorders, reported on Thursday that it has dosed first participant in a Phase 1 trial of HMB-003, an investigational peptide therapy for heavy menstrual bleeding.
Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) affects one in three reproductive-age women, with nearly 23 million women in the U.S. seeking medical care for the condition each year. It is a leading cause of iron deficiency and anemia among pre-menopausal women and the primary symptom driving hysterectomies.
Hemab estimates that HMB contributes to 3.6 weeks of work lost annually per affected woman, resulting in more than $94 billion in annual economic losses in the U.S.
HMB-003 is a subcutaneous, fatty-acid-conjugated antifibrinolytic designed to inhibit plasmin and prevent clot breakdown. In pre-clinical studies, a single dose of HMB-003 has produced antifibrinolytic activity lasting about one week.
The randomized, placebo-controlled Phase 1 study will evaluate HMB-003's safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in healthy adults. Hemab expects to report initial clinical results by mid-2027.
On Wednesday, Hemab shares closed at $40.97, up 2.14%.
